How Much Does a Website Redesign Cost in Maryland and Northern Virginia in 2026?

A professionally designed website redesign for a small or mid-size business in the Maryland, Northern Virginia, and DC area typically costs between $8,000 and $45,000 in 2026. Simple brochure sites sit at the low end, custom sites with integrations and content strategy sit in the middle, and ecommerce, multi-region, or enterprise sites run higher. The single biggest factor is not page count. It is how much of the site has to be designed and written from scratch versus adapted from what you already have.
We have been quoting websites since 1986, and the question we hear most often is still “what should this cost?” Here is how we answer it.
What a website redesign costs by project size
Small business brochure site: $8,000 to $18,000. Eight to fifteen pages, custom design on WordPress, mobile-first build, contact forms, basic on-page SEO, and a launch checklist. This is the right fit for a local service business, a professional practice, or a company that needs a credible site without complex functionality.
Mid-size business or B2B site: $18,000 to $45,000. Twenty to sixty pages, custom design system, multiple templates for services, industries, and case studies, CRM or email platform integration, structured data, accessibility built to WCAG 2.2 AA, and content migration from the old site. Most of our work for government contractors, technology firms, and associations falls here.
Ecommerce, multi-region, or enterprise: $45,000 to $120,000 and up. WooCommerce or another commerce platform, product catalogs, gated content, regional sites with hreflang, custom plugins, and formal QA. Regulated industries like medical devices add review cycles that affect cost as much as the build itself.
If a quote comes in far below these ranges, ask what is being reused. A $3,000 “redesign” is usually a purchased theme with your logo dropped in. That can be fine, but it is not a redesign.
What actually moves the price
Custom design vs template. A custom design system takes a designer two to four weeks before a developer writes a line of code. Templates skip that step, and they look like it.
Copywriting. Roughly half the projects we quote need new copy. Professional website copywriting adds $150 to $400 per page depending on research required. Sites that reuse existing copy cost less but often carry the same problems into the new design.
Integrations. Connecting HubSpot, Salesforce, Mailchimp, a booking system, or a payment gateway each adds development and testing time. Budget $1,500 to $5,000 per integration.
Content migration. Moving 300 blog posts with images, categories, and redirects is real work. Moving 12 pages is not.
Accessibility and performance. Building to WCAG 2.2 AA and passing Core Web Vitals from day one adds modest cost during the build and saves a great deal in remediation later. We include both in every site we build.
Photography and video. Stock imagery is included in most quotes. Custom photography for a regional business typically runs $1,500 to $4,000 per shoot day.
What should be included in any redesign quote
- Discovery: stakeholder interviews, analytics review, and a sitemap before design starts
- Custom design for desktop and mobile, with at least two rounds of revisions
- Development on a platform you own and can edit
- Redirect map from every old URL to its new equivalent, so you do not lose search rankings at launch
- Accessibility and performance testing
- Training for your team and 30 days of post-launch support
If the quote does not mention redirects, ask. A redesign that drops your existing URLs without redirects can cost you a year of organic traffic.
How to reduce the cost without hurting the result
Keep pages that work. Reuse copy that reads well. Consolidate thin pages before migration instead of paying to move them. Decide integrations up front rather than mid-build. And give the agency real access to your analytics, because data cuts discovery time in half.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a website redesign take?
Eight to fourteen weeks for most small and mid-size business sites, from kickoff to launch. Content and approval speed on the client side is the most common cause of delay.
Is a website redesign a one-time cost?
The build is one-time. Hosting, maintenance, and security updates are ongoing. Plan for $100 to $500 per month depending on the site’s complexity.
Should I redesign or just refresh my current site?
If your site is under four years old, mobile-friendly, and on a platform you can edit, a refresh may be enough. We cover how to decide in Website redesign vs refresh.
Do you charge for an estimate?
No. Our estimates are free and itemized, and you talk to the designer or developer who would do the work.
Why do agencies in the DC area cost more than freelancers or offshore teams?
You are paying for a team that handles design, development, copy, and SEO together, meets you in person when it helps, and is still around in five years. Whether that matters depends on how central your website is to the business.
